Kartasan is the new band based around Belgian singer-songwriter/pianist/composer Jan Vandecasteele; Kartasan serves a blend of infectious pop/rock with a jazz and Latin twist. Jan has a distinctive vocal style and a lot of talent, and is backed by an excellent band. Live, they are fired up by The Killer Horns horn section.

Last summer Kartasan recorded their debut album ‘Another Profile’. (Studio On The Moon, Drongen). The band worked with a bunch of professional musicians, such as The Killer Horns (Marc De Maeseneer, Yves Fernandez, Frederik Heirman) and a string ensemble with Paul Klinck, Jeroen Baert, Erwin Foubert and Seraphine Stragier. A lot of enthusiasm and great songs led to a prestigious album. Werner Pensaert, known for his mixing work for Rammstein, U2, Live, K’s Choice…, liked the music immediately and mixed the album at the Audioworkx Studio in The Netherlands.

In the meantime Kartasan played a number of tryout concerts in Brussels and Flanders. The audience was pleasantly surprised by the maturity of this young band. News spread fast, Kartasan grew and more and more people came to check them out. The renowned GHENT JAZZ FESTIVAL invited Kartasan to play at this year’s festival on the same night as Joe Jackson and Marianne Faithfull; Radio 1 recorded the concert of Kartasan, which took place in the best conditions.

NEDERLANDS:
Kartasan. Zo heet de nieuwe band rond Jan Vandecasteele, een thirtysomething zanger, pianist, componist met een voorliefde voor pop/rockmelodieën met een jazzy/latin inslag. Vandecasteele beschikt over een fantastisch vocaal, bakken songschrijftalent en heeft zich omringd door een straffe band, die live aangevuurd wordt door een uit de kluiten gewassen blazerssectie, The Killer Horns. Je zou Kartasans songs kunnen omschrijven als ‘liedjes die je onbewust altijd al gekend hebt, maar nog nooit hebt gehoord.’

Vorig jaar startte Kartasan met de opnames van het debuutalbum ANOTHER PROFILE. De band nodigde een indrukwekkend cast aan rasmuzikanten uit, die allemaal met veel geestdrift aan de plaat meewerken. Een greep uit het aanbod: The Killer Horns (Marc De Maeseneer, Yves Fernandez en Frederik Heirman), een strijkersensemble (Paul Klinck, Jeroen Baert, Erwin Fourbert, Seraphine Stragier), en bijdrages op contrabas, Hammond, banjo, en percussie. Werner Pensaert – een van België’s topproducers – is meteen enthousiast en engageerde zich om de plaat te mixen. Het resultaat is ernaar.

De prille band speelde her en der een paar concerten, schaafde aan de songs, en wist zich gestimuleerd door een steeds groter wordende publieke opkomst. De live-maturiteit en de speeldrift lokte – the buzz was spread – steeds meer mensen naar de concerten. En dat zonder radio-airplay. Tijdens het GHENT JAZZ FESTIVAL op 18 juli ’09 kon Kartasan zich in optimale omstandigheden live voorstellen aan een groot publiek. Hun concert werd opgenomen door Radio 1.

DeLaVega made nothing less than a splash on the Belgian pop scene in 2004, with a beautiful mini-album, an outstanding single "Surely" which received airplay on almost every radio station, a classy video that went straight into high rotation on TMF, positive press reviews... In less than no time the quartet - named after the notorious hero Diego De La Vega, a.k.a. Zorro - built up a respectable reputation, Delavega confirmed early 2005 with a strong debut album "Falling Into Place" which brought the band to Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop a.o. festivals during the same summer and to Eurosonic in Holland early 2006.
Delavega achieved the Pop Music Award of the province East-Flanders in 2005 and a Zamu Award for best new band for 2005.
With the arrival of new singer Elke Bruyneel early 2006, Delavega starts a promissing new chapter.
The 2nd full album called THE DAY AFTER including the hitsingles LITTLE CLOUDS, ONE TIME and DANCE, BABY is out in Belgium and Holland since November 2007, on Play It Again, Sam! Records.
